There are hundreds of file systems in your PC that is absolutely not possible to know about each one of them. I am a tech freak and have lost count of them. Such as we have hiberfil.sys, it is another Windows file system that I had no idea existed long before.
Also, it is difficult to keep track of all these system files that are needed to run a particular function or application. If you are not a tech freak then it will be even more difficult.
Well, if you have recently come across the file name hiberfil.sys in your computer system and have no idea what’s going on. Simply scroll down to know everything about it.
What is Hiberfil.sys?
Hiberfil.sys is a system file that your computer creates by itself when your system goes into hibernation mode. It contains all the saved files and the current memory of the PC. As soon as you get back on with your PC, you will get all your files in a similar manner. Furthermore, hiberfil.sys is a hidden file in your system. If you want to check, simply open the File Manager and tick out the box beside “Show hidden files and folders” in the folder options.
There are many times that we need to save power and battery for better performance, which is why we use the sleep or hibernation mode. You will be thrilled to know that Sleep mode uses the least power and saves battery.
The same goes for the hibernation mode which saves even more power as compared to sleep mode. The entire process makes it easier to save all the information and memory of the PC in a single file.
Should I get rid of the hiberfil.sys file?
Well, the answer is YES. But it totally depends. Since you already know that this file saves all your data while the system is in sleep or Hibernation mode. Once you recover your laptop and start using it again, all your files will be there as it was.
If you are someone like me, who has the habit of never shutting down the laptop or your PC and keeping it in the sleep or hibernation mode. Then the answer is NO. Do not think of deleting the file no matter what. All your information is stored in that file and you will lose it all the next time you put your system on hibernation mode.
Secondly, if you have simply thought that you will no longer use the Hibernation mode and want to get rid of the hiberfil.sys file. Then YES, you should delete the file from your system. It will free up a hell lot of space and provide you with extra space to store whichever files you need. Keep in mind, the process isn’t like dragging the file into a recycle bin.
